American Rick Lafferty searched for answers for years after his wife and 10-year-old daughter disappeared in 2000 amid a custody dispute. The answer he was looking for came to light 24 years later, with the confession of the murderer on his deathbed.
The incident came to light when 80-year-old Larry Webb, who was thought to be linked to the disappearance of Susan Carter and her daughter Natasha Alex and was held in prison without bail, suffered a sudden health problem and confessed his crime while on his death bed.

The prosecutor announced that Webb confessed to shooting Susan Carter, with whom he had an argument for financial reasons, before her death. According to the information in the court file, Webb, who killed the mother, decided to kill the woman’s 10-year-old daughter, Alex, in order to avoid being caught.
The man, who told the investigators in detail how he committed the murders and how he hid the bodies, admitted that he kept the lifeless body of the mother and daughter in the basement for 2 days and then buried it in his backyard, and he died within hours.

Acting upon the suspect’s confession, the police encountered the remains of the mother and daughter during a search in the garden of the house in Virginia.

In his statement after the discovery made by the police, the grieving father stated that he was both sad and happy at the same time and said, “I almost lost hope because the case was shelved many times. But after 24 years, I will finally be able to take my baby home.”

According to information in the British Independent newspaper, Rick Lafferty and his wife Susan Carter were in the process of divorce. The mother, who left home with her daughter, was staying with Larry Webb, but Webb blamed the mother for the money missing from the house.
While the case remained unsolved for years, Webb initially denied his crime, and later claimed that he did not remember anything because he had ‘dementia’.
