The US Senate approved the $95 billion foreign aid package, which also provides military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The Senate, the upper house of the US Congress, supported the aid package passed by the House of Representatives on Saturday.
The bill also foresees $61 billion in military aid to Ukraine, and the US Department of Defense states that the aid will begin to be delivered “within days.” The bill, supported by both parties, passed with 79 votes to 18.
US President Joe Biden said in his statement that he would sign the bill into law on Wednesday. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also emphasized that the United States has shown that it will not turn its back on its allies.
The Senate passed a similar aid package in February, but a group of conservatives who opposed new aid to Ukraine prevented its vote in the House of Representatives.
