Iranian asylum seeker Mehran Karimi Nasseri, who inspired director Steven Spielberg’s “Terminal”, died at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport in France, close to the capital, Paris.

According to the news based on an airport official by the French press, Nasseri, known by the nickname “Sir Alfred”, died of natural causes around 12.00 at the 2F terminal of Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, where he lived between 1988-2006.

Nasseri, born in Iran in 1945, came to France after passing through England, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium on the way to find his mother, and started to stay at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, close to Paris.

Nasseri was granted refugee status and residence permit in France in 1999. Nasseri was hospitalized in 2006, then lived in a charity shelter, then in a hotel.

It was noted that Nasseri arrived at the airport again a few weeks ago. (AA)
