In Tunceli, it was reported that the entrance and exit of animals to the city were prohibited within the scope of foot-and-mouth disease measures. In the statement made by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, it was stated that the “SAT-2 strain” of the foot and mouth virus spread rapidly throughout the country. In this context, it was stated that various measures were taken in the statement, “In our province, animal movements in and out of the province (except for slaughter, import and export) are prohibited until further notice.” statement was included.

SIMILAR DECISION IN AFYONKARAHİSAR

In Afyonkarahisar, while animal shipments in and out of the province were stopped, it was reported that the teams of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the district directorates will vaccinate cattle and small cattle against foot-and-mouth disease. While only animals that will go to the slaughterhouse are allowed to be shipped, it was warned that those who do not comply with the prohibitions will be fined 46 thousand 159 TL.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY

After the first case of foot-and-mouth disease was detected, 8 businesses were quarantined. In the statement made by the Ministry, the following statements were included: ” Upon the emergence of developments related to foot and mouth disease in Iraq, within the framework of the Sample Sending and Testing Protocol under the coordination of the European Union Commission for Combating Foot and Mouth Disease (EuFMD), samples from different locations were sent to our Foot and Mouth Institute Directorate under our Ministry for examination. sent.,

FIRST CASE DETECTED

Our institute determined that a sample was a serotype of SAT-2, which has not been found in our country before, and the agent was isolated and studies were immediately started for the production of a vaccine against this serotype in our country, and all stakeholders, as well as our Provincial Directorates, were warned about the issue. In order to prevent the spread of the disease to our country, our Ministry immediately contacted the relevant institutions and provided necessary information on increasing border surveillance and road control activities. As a result of meticulous work in the field, the first case with SAT-2 serotype foot and mouth disease was identified.

8 BUSINESSES IN quarantine

All measures, including cordon-quarantine, have been taken in 8 enterprises that are currently infected. On March 8, 2023, the necessary notification was made to the World Animal Health Organization. As a result of the studies carried out by our Alum Institute Directorate, a vaccine against the SAT-2 serotype was produced and made ready for use as of March 9, 2023.

SPRING VACCINATIONS STOPPED

All measures to prevent the spread of the disease were taken by the National Center for Disease Control, which gathered upon these developments, and all animal movements (in and out of the province) susceptible to foot and mouth disease were stopped throughout the country during the spring foot and mouth vaccination campaign, except for the dispatches made for slaughter, import and export purposes. All developments regarding SAT-2 serotype foot-and-mouth disease are closely followed by our Ministry from the first moment and all necessary precautions are taken. Our Ministry, which has completed the production of vaccine against this serotype, which is seen for the first time in our country, is rapidly carrying out the necessary studies to vaccinate our entire cattle stock.”
