Among the items put up for sale by the Ministry of Commerce via e-tender, sports shoes in the ‘Collectible sports equipment’ category attracted attention.

Three pairs of sneakers, reportedly signed by Michael Jordan, one of the legendary names of the American Basketball League (NBA), were put out to tender on April 15. The sales price of 3 pairs of sneakers in the Liquidation Warehouse No. 2 belonging to the Mersin Liquidation Operation Directorate (TİM) of the Ministry of Commerce was determined as 5 million liras.

The tender ended on April 19. However, no bids were made for the shoes during the tender period. Thereupon, the Ministry put the shoes out to tender again on the same day. No bidders have yet been placed on the shoes in the tender, where the application process is still ongoing and a guarantee fee of 100 thousand liras is required.

IT WAS SOLD FOR 2.2 MILLION DOLLARS

Last year, the shoe that Michael Jordan wore in the 1998 NBA final game was sold at auction. The shoe that won Jordan the match was sold for 2.2 million dollars at the auction held at Sotheby’s Auction House in New York. This sneaker, which Jordan wore in 1998, became the most expensive sneaker ever sold for $2.2 million. Another sneaker that Jordan wore early in his career was sold for 1.47 million dollars at an auction in 2021.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that the sports shoes brought to customs by legal entities or real persons were kept in the warehouse because the customs clearance was not carried out in accordance with the legislation, and at the end of the legal period, the liquidation process was started and put out to tender for sale.

The tender statement said:

“3 basketball shoes signed by Michael Jordan. The items are waiting. The item is offered for sale in its current condition. The information about the goods in the system is informational. Bidders who bid in the system are deemed to have seen and examined the e-auctioned item in its current state and accepted it as it was submitted to the e-auction. “After the delivery of the goods/vehicle to the buyer, the buyer will carry out any permits or documents required for the placing, use or registration of the goods/vehicle on the market, registration, registration or notification procedures, and all financial burdens and obligations related to these will be borne by the buyer.”
