During the coronavirus epidemic, many people did not receive the compulsory vaccinations given to children on time. The first of these vaccines is the measles vaccine. Regarding the issue, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said in its statement that there was an increase in whooping cough and measles cases across the country. For this reason, it was underlined that vaccination protocols should be followed.

INCREASE HAS STARTED

The statement on the subject came from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which operates within the European Union. Stating that there is an increase in both measles and whooping cough cases, the institution said that vaccination protocols should be followed.

5 DEATHS RECORDED

Director Andrea Ammon stated that although measles and whooping cough are vaccine-preventable diseases, they have started to increase among the population and deaths have begun to occur. “These diseases cause suffering, especially to unprotected and vulnerable people of all ages.” It has been announced that there have been 5 deaths since the end of February.

PEOPLE AT RISK ARE ANNOUNCED

Unfortunately, measles is among the diseases that are easily caught. A sick person can infect an average of 18 other people. It is known that at least 95 percent of the population must be vaccinated with 2 doses to stop the spread. On the other hand, it was noted that there was an increase of up to 10 times in whooping cough cases. It was announced that those at risk are young children and newborn babies.

VACCINATION DECREASED DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PERIOD

WHO found that 1.8 million babies in Europe will not be vaccinated against measles between 2020 and 2022. While it has been revealed that many children are deprived of vaccination due to the coronavirus epidemic, experts underline that vaccination studies should continue.
