Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are preparing to continue the “28 Days Later” saga with a new trilogy.
The cast of the movie “28 Years Later”, in which Danny Boyle and Alex Garland will reunite once again, is being formed. Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes, who had previously been rumored to star in the film, will star in the first film of the trilogy.
The original film, “28 Days Later,” led by Cillian Murphy, revolved around a bike courier who wakes up from a coma and discovers the world has been overrun by fast-moving zombies after the emergence of a virus.
It is not yet clear whether Murphy, who has stated in previous interviews that he is willing to return to the role if Garland and Boyle are involved, will star in the new film, but he will be the executive producer of the project. Boyle, Garland, Bernie Bellew, Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice are also among the producers.
“28 Years Later” will be the first film of a trilogy. Garland will also write the next two films, and “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta will direct the second feature. The plan is to shoot at least the first two movies back-to-back and start shooting this summer.
Details of the story are being kept tightly under wraps beyond the time period of the film’s title.
