Who is Cüneyt Arkın?
Real name Fahrettin Cüreklibatir Cüneyt Arkın was born on September 8, 1937 in the village of Karaçay, which is connected to the center of Eskişehir. His father is Hacı Yakup Cüreklibatur, who participated in the War of Independence. He is originally from the Nogai Turks. Arkın, who studied at Eskişehir Atatürk High School, graduated from Istanbul Medical Faculty in 1961.
While he was doing his military service as a reserve officer in his hometown of Eskişehir, he caught the attention of director Halit Refiğ during the shooting of the movie Şafak Bekçileri (1963), starring Göksel Arsoy. After completing his military service, he worked as a doctor in Adana and its surroundings. He won the first prize in the contest of Artist magazine in 1963. Arkın, who was looking for a job for a while, started acting in cinema with Halit Refiğ’s offer in 1963 and made about 30 films in 2 years.
He was the star of action movies.
The fight scene in the finale of the 1964 movie Gurbet Kuşları was a breaking point in Arkın’s career. After playing emotional-romantic young characters for a while, he turned to action movies, again with Halit Refiğ’s suggestion.
During this period, he took acrobatics training for six months at the Medrano Circus, which came to Istanbul. He brought a unique style to Turkish cinema by transferring what he learned here to the big screen in the Malkoçoğlu and Battalgazi series.
