The effective rains in Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ increased the farmers’ hopes for high yields in canola and wheat.
Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Agriculture Field Crops Department Head Prof. Dr. İsmet Başer told the AA correspondent that the recent rains contributed to the development of wheat and canola and made producers happy.
Stating that the negativities in the development of canola and wheat have been eliminated by the rains, Başer said, “The development of wheat is going really well. There is a problem of wheat lodging only in the areas that were planted frequently during the recent rains and in the lands where the wind gets too much. Our producers should be careful there. It is not a big problem, the wheat will recover. This “There does not seem to be a significant problem in wheat development at the moment, it is going quite well. The development of our canolas that started this year is quite good, especially after the recent rains. I do not think there will be a big risk from now on.” he said.
Başer advised producers to check their lands frequently in the future.
Stating that higher yields will be achieved in Thrace this year compared to previous years, Başer said, “Compared to last year, the average yield in both wheat and canola will be above the average yield, and even I expect record yields in some areas. Our yield will be above last year.” said.
“Farmers are happy with the rain”
Tekirdağ Chamber of Agriculture President İmdat Saygı also stated that the cultivated lands received good rainfall this year.
Stating that the development of canola and wheat is extremely good, Saygı stated that the producers are happy with the recent rains.
Saygı said, “Currently, all plants such as canola, wheat and barley have received their share from the rain. April rains are very important for producers. With these rains, the plant will feed the grain and there will be an increase in productivity. Rain is indispensable for the farmer. When there is rain, the farmer is always happy. This “There doesn’t seem to be any problem at the moment.” he said.
“We have been waiting for such good rains for a long time”
Edirne Chamber of Agriculture President Hüseyin Arabacı said that there are good rains that will contribute to the development of wheat and canola.
Stating that producers are worried after the dry winter, Arabacı said that the recent rains have made people smile.
Stating that the rain came on time, Arabacı said, “We have been waiting for such beautiful rains for a long time. The rains have been extremely beneficial for the development of wheat in the spike period. It will also make a great contribution to the blooming canola. Drought stress has decreased. Hopefully, these rains will increase the yield. It will be abundant and fruitful for our producers.” I wish you a good agricultural season.” he said.
“The rains were very good for our cultivated areas”
Kırklareli Chamber of Agriculture President Ekrem Şaylan also stated that the recent rains contributed to cultivated areas, especially wheat, sunflower, corn and canola.
Stating that farmers breathed a sigh of relief with the spring rains, Şaylan said, “Thank God, the rain came on time. During the development period of wheat and canola, sunflowers are trying to emerge from the soil. These rains were very good for our cultivated areas.” he said.
Producers are hopeful
Canola producer Salih Can Dinçer from Tekirdağ also stated that they got rid of the fear of yield loss with the recent rains.
Stating that they took a deep breath with the recent rains, Dinçer said that they expect more efficiency than last year.
Tuncay Özalatur, a wheat producer from Kırklareli, said that they expect an increase in the quality and yield of wheat this year.
Reminding that they planted wheat in November, Özalatur stated that the germination process was good due to the rain.
Stating that the harvest will take place in late June, Özalatur said, “We hope that we will get more yield this year compared to last year. The first emergence and germination were very good.” he said.
