Mysterious explosion sound caused fear and panic in Gaziantep

A loud explosion was heard in rural neighborhoods on the Syrian border line in Gaziantep’s Nizip district. While a large-scale investigation was initiated regarding the explosion sound, which worried the citizens living in the region, it was learned that the possibility that a mortar shell might have fallen on the empty land was considered.

The incident took place in rural neighborhoods on the Syrian border line in Nizip district of Gaziantep. Allegedly, citizens living especially in the rural Gökçeli District of the region suddenly heard a very loud explosion. Citizens who experienced fear and panic at the sound they heard reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon notice, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the areas where the sound was heard. After the incident, in which no one was killed or injured, a large-scale investigation was launched into the source of the explosion sound. It was learned that the teams working on the incident were considering the possibility that a mortar shell might have fallen on the empty land. Citizens who experienced fear and panic talked about those moments

Describing the fear and panic they experienced, citizens named Çapan Köse and Adil Yılmaz said that they first saw a sharp light for a short time and then were startled by a loud explosion. Citizens also stated that they were close to Syria and that the possibility of something falling from there occurred to them.

It was reported that a large-scale investigation into the matter is ongoing.
