Footage of the moments when a care home worker was subjected to violence for several minutes against an autistic disabled young man staying at a disabled care center in Mersin, horrified those who saw it. The caregiver, who was detained after the incident in January, was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Security camera footage of the 8-minute violence of the caregiver, who was sentenced to 12 months in prison for inflicting violence on an autistic disabled young person at a private boarding center in Mersin, has emerged. While the images horrified the viewers, the decision hearing of the case regarding the incident was held today.
The hearing at the Mersin 18th Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the defendant Ali K, who was detained for another crime, Muazzez Ünal, the mother of the autistic young man E.K, who was subjected to violence, and the lawyers of the parties. At the hearing, defendant Ali K. said that he regretted the incident and said, “I apologize to EK and his family. I regret appearing before you in such a situation.” While E.K’s mother, Muazzez Ünal, demanded that the defendant be punished in the most severe way, the complainant’s lawyer, Mavi Özge Öz, said that the defendant had beaten E.K. for 8 minutes and therefore demanded that he be punished for the crime of ‘torture’.
The judge sentenced the defendant Ali K to 8 months in prison for ‘simple wounding against a person who cannot defend himself physically and mentally’. The sentence was increased to 12 months because the crime was committed against 94 percent disabled people. It was also decided that the defendant’s current condition should continue.
