Hüseyin Taklacı, Chairman of the Turkish Woodworking Federation, said that 147 professional chambers and around 100 thousand tradesmen are members of the Federation and that they contribute to the country’s economy with exports.

Talking about the problems in the sector, Taklacı stated that they need R&D and design centers for the development of furniture, and that furniture manufacturers will be ahead in exports with their own styles.

“Anatolian furniture makers make value-added products”

Pointing out that 93 percent of the raw materials in the furniture industry are met from the country’s resources, Taklacı said:

“It is a sector with 7 percent imports. The necessary support should be given to this sector. It is a sector that will remain in our country as it is a foreign currency inflow when we export. Especially our members, micro enterprises and medium-sized enterprises need to be given more support and they need to be expanded. When these are enlarged, they will be in Turkey” “You will see that Anatolian furniture makers are making value-added products.”

Stating that the furniture industry is developing in Kayseri, Ankara, Bursa and Adana, Taklacı said, regarding the export data of the industry, “2 billion 65 million in 2018, 3 billion in 2019, 5.5 billion in 2020, 6.9 billion in 2021, “We exported nearly 7.4 billion dollars in 2022 and 8 billion dollars in 2023.” said.

Explaining that production and exports will increase when the General Directorate of Forestry gives the wood from planted trees to factories at affordable prices, Taklacı said that they will be in a better position in exports in 2024 figures.

Taklacı added that China is the world’s leader in furniture exports, while Turkey ranks 9th.
