Villagers work collaboratively hoeing vineyards in Derecik

In Hakkari’s Derecik district, citizens started working together to hoe vineyards in spring.

This year, as every year, digging work started in the vineyards in the studentsk village of Derecik district, located at the zero point of Iraq, in the spring. Villagers try to dig a citizen’s vineyard every day with pickaxes and shovels. Villagers who have been hoeing the vineyards for days help one person every day. The work carried out through collective work continues until the vineyard maintenance is completed.

Saying that they have been digging vineyards for days, Ökkeş Tuğun said, “We help our relatives every day. That’s why it ends quickly. We farmers work as a collective labor force every year. Since machines cannot enter the area you have seen, we dig in the vineyards and gardens with our own means. Since our agricultural areas are very rugged, imece “We work with agricultural tools such as pickaxes and shovels,” he said.
