“SUPPORT THE NORMALIZATION PROCESS INITIATED WITH ARMENIA”

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We reject the one-sided statements made about the events of 1915 in order to please some radical circles.”

“These statements, which distort historical facts, are also against international law. The European Court of Human Rights has clearly noted that the events of 1915 are a legitimate subject of debate. These prejudiced and biased statements about history not only harm reconciliation efforts between the two communities, but also harm the efforts of radicals who are prone to commit hate crimes.” “We call on all parties to support our proposal to establish a Joint Historical Commission and the normalization process initiated with Armenia.”

1915 MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN TO MASALYAN

President Erdoğan also sent a message to the Patriarch of Turkish Armenians, Sahak Maşalyan, regarding the events of 1915. In his message, Erdoğan commemorated the Armenian citizens of the Ottoman Empire who lost their lives in the adverse conditions of the First World War and expressed his condolences to their grandchildren, and wished God’s mercy to all members of the Ottoman society who died and were martyred due to conflicts, riots, gang movements and acts of terror.

“IT IS IMPORTANT TO ADDRESS THE EVENTS IN HISTORY WITH THE GUIDE OF SCIENCE”

Stating that the destruction caused by the First World War in the Ottoman lands left deep traces in the memories, Erdoğan said: “The continuation of the climate of peace and tranquility inherited from our ancestors can only be possible with our joint efforts. The safety of our Armenian citizens, who enriched the Anatolian lands with the cultural and human works they produced, Their well-being and happiness are still guaranteed today. We did not and will not allow even a single Armenian citizen to be marginalized, excluded, or feel second-class in his homeland. It is important that we address the events in history under the guidance of reason, conscience, and science, without allowing radical discourses, marginalization, or language of hatred. “Establishing empathy, without distinguishing between the events engraved in our national memory, will also prevent the seeds of hatred from taking root.”

HE SENT HIS GREETINGS TO THE MEMBERS OF THE ARMENIAN COMMUNITY

Pointing out that the way to protect future generations from the spiral of violence and war that surrounds the world is to build the future together, in the light of the lessons to be learned from common pain, Erdoğan conveyed his greetings to the members of the Armenian community.
