Soldiers, police and gendarmerie teams working at the city entrance and border areas in Edirne caught 1,096 illegal immigrants who wanted to cross illegally to Greece and Bulgaria during their inspections in the last month. The teams also detained 54 suspects who organized the escape of immigrants during the operations.
MAJORITY FROM AFGHANISTAN
While the majority of the illegal immigrants caught were from Afghanistan, the others were from Iraq, Syria and Pakistan.
29 HUMAN TRADERS ARRESTED
29 of the 54 suspects detained by the security forces on the grounds that they helped the escape of 1,096 illegal immigrants caught on foot and in vehicles at the city entrance and border areas were sent to the courthouse after their procedures. 29 suspects, whose interrogations were completed here, were arrested and put in prison.
