After the earthquakes in Sulusaray district of Tokat, when the plaster of the old Quran course belonging to the District Mufti’s Office fell off, a fountain from the Ottoman period was revealed. This fountain, which was discovered by chance as a result of the plaster falling off after the earthquake, attracted attention with its centuries-old nature.

A HISTORICAL BUILDING WAS REVEALED AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

After the 4 and 5.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred in Tokat’s Sulusaray district recently, some buildings and old structures were damaged. A fountain built during the Ottoman period was revealed when the plaster of the old Quran course belonging to the Sulusaray Mufti’s Office, located in the district’s Buğdaylı village, was removed. It was learned that the fountain dates back to 1895.

IT DRAW ATTENTION BY ITS DEFYING THE YEARS

Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Head of the History Department, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Demir said, “This historical work is the ruins of a fountain. It was built in 1895, belonging to the Ottoman period. This fountain was covered with plaster, and then a new fountain was built next to it. After the earthquake, with the plaster falling off, the fountain appeared in the background. This shows the following “Even though historical monuments have been covered over time, they can re-emerge during an earthquake. Despite the hundreds of years that have passed, the structures built during the Ottoman period and those built before have survived many earthquakes. These works are built very solidly,” he said.
