With the arrival of spring, seedling planting operations began in the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Garden, located in Yalova’s Altınova district and home to 240 types of medicinal plants.

In the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Garden, which was established in 2020 and operated by Altınova Municipality, medicinal plants are produced on 28 decares of the 40 decare area. The interest of visitors to the garden, where the medicinal plants grown are sold to the public, is increasing day by day. Providing information about the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Garden, in cooperation with Yalova Atatürk Horticulture Central Research Institute, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Nature Conservation and National Parks Yalova Branch, Director Mustafa Sarıgül stated that there are tree, climbing and creeping plant groups in the garden. brought. Sarıgül stated that they grow plants that can be used in the kitchen, such as thyme and lavender, in the garden and offer them for sale to citizens.

Stating that they organized conferences in the hall in the garden to raise awareness among the public and farmers in collaboration with universities, Sarıgül said, “We built our production greenhouse where we can grow our own seedlings. It is a joint project with the Eastern Marmara Development Agency. We have gradually worked on the plants we call elderberry, bitter melon and medicinal mint.” We are doing studies that may be beneficial to human health. Of course, we do this together with professors from the faculties of pharmacy and medicine. We also have special plants that we have brought from abroad, which we call schisandra grape, witch hazel, and chocolate ivy. “Stevia has already become increasingly common in our area. We raise awareness among our citizens and direct our citizens, especially those with diabetes, to use it,” he said.

Sarıgül explained that they planted seedlings in the garden in the spring and noted that they produced around 25 thousand seedlings this year and that they would share them with universities.

Altınova Mayor Yasemin Çokca stated that the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Garden, which is one of the places that add value to the district and Yalova, is one of the exemplary gardens in Turkey.
