The clock of the 116-year-old historical Clock Tower, whose foundations were laid during the reign of Abdülhamid II and built in 1908 by the then Mayor Tevfik Zade Ahmet Bey, was maintained and repaired after a long time and was made to tell the time again.

The historical Clock Tower, which has been standing for more than a century in the center of the city, dazzles with all its splendor. The historical tower, which was built in 1908 during the time of the then Mayor Tevfik Zade Ahmet Bey, consists of 7 floors, including the ground floor and the parts where the bell is located. There are 4 clocks in the tower built of yellow cut stones, and the bells can be heard from many points of the city at the beginning of each hour.

Yozgat Municipality took action to make the historical Clock Tower, which added an identity to the city for years but whose clock stopped working due to lack of interest in recent years, operational again. One of the first actions of the newly appointed Mayor Kazım Arslan was to repair the clock mechanism of the tower and bring it to the city. After the maintenance and repair works, the Historical Clock Tower was made operational as on the first day and put into service of the city. The restoration of the Clock Tower, an important symbol of the city, made the citizens happy.

“It is our duty to carry it into the future”

Stating that the Clock Tower is one of the most important symbols of Yozgat, Yozgat Mayor Kazım Arslan said, “Our clock tower should live as a symbol. The clock in our tower has not been working for about 5-6 years. We started our duty and carried out maintenance and repair work, taking into account the demand from our citizens in this regard.” As of today, our Clock Tower has become operational. Our citizens were pleased with this situation. During the reign of Abdulhamid II, some works were carried out in the provincial provinces. Of course, buildings such as the Hamidiye Fountain, Yozgat High School and the Clock Tower were among the works started. “It is our duty to carry these works firmly into the future.” said.

Rasim Demirkapak, one of the citizens who thanked Mayor Arslan, stated that the Clock Tower is one of the important symbols of Yozgat and expressed his satisfaction with the working of the tower’s clock.
