The health condition of the baby who was taken by cesarean section from the mother who died after falling off the electric bike her husband was driving and being run over by a bus in Adana is improving.

The treatment of her baby boy, who was born by cesarean section after the accident in which Syrian national Nur Abbud (31) died in the central Yüreğir district, continues at Çukurova University (CU) Faculty of Medicine Balcalı Hospital.

Thanks to the interventions made in the neonatal intensive care unit, the baby was separated from the respirator and began to breathe without support.

Professor of the Hospital’s Department of Child Health and Diseases. Dr. Hacer Yapıcıoğlu stated to the journalists that births without oxygen are common and that such accident-related cases are rare.

Stating that the mother was taken to Adana City Training and Research Hospital after the accident, Yapıcıoğlu explained that the baby was taken into caesarean section after the heart sound was noticed.

Yapıcıoğlu said that upon noticing that the baby was not breathing or had no heart rate after birth, a heart massage was performed for 15 minutes, and then medication was given to his lungs through a tube to start breathing.

“We separated him from the ventilator”

Stating that the baby’s values were much lower than they should be at the time of birth, Yapıcıoğlu said:

“Since our baby was born without oxygen, we reduced his body temperature to 34.5 degrees by body cooling, which we call hypothermia. Thus, the oxygen consumption of the brain cells was reduced. When the baby first arrived, it was worse, but after 72 hours of treatment, we took him off the respirator. Despite his bad history, he is getting better than expected. He is now in tube. “We are feeding him. His sucking reflex is also improved. We have a few more tests to do. If his oral feeding returns to normal and there is no seizure, we plan to discharge him in 1-2 weeks.”
