27-year-old Italian cyclist Giovanni Lonardi from the Polti-Kometa team won the 147.4 kilometer long third stage of the 59th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, running between Fethiye and Marmaris. In the stage that witnessed the sprint finish, although Danny van Poppel from the Bora-Hansgrohe team crossed the line first, he was disqualified on the grounds that he blocked Lonardi’s passage in the last meters, and the stage victory was given to Lonardi, who finished in second place.

After Lonardi, Italian cyclist Enrico Zanoncello from the VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizane team took second place, while German Max Kanter from Astana-Qazaqstan took third place.

60 kilometers to go: Entering the last 60 kilometers of the stage, the advantage of the four escape group consisting of Filippo Conca (Q36.5), Willie Smit (China Glory), Antoine Berlin (Bike Aid), Kondrad Czabok (Mazowsze) over the peloton was reduced to 1:30.

50 kilometers to go: With the pace of Alpecin-Pimapen and Spor Toto, the peloton reduced the gap with the escape group to 50 seconds.

45 kilometers to go: The advantage of the leading group of four over the peloton increased to 1:20.

35 kilometers to go: With the pace of Alpecin-Pimapen, the team of general classification leader Henri Uhlig in the peloton, the advantage of the escape group decreased again to 50 seconds.

30 kilometers to go: Filippo Conca from the Q36.5 team made a solo attack from the escape group and scored the maximum points in the climbing gate. Antoine Berlin passed the climbing gate in second place and Willie Smith in third place.

25 kilometers to go: After the climb, Filippo Conca remains the lone leader. The gap between him and Peloton was up to 1:15. There is also a two-person follower group between the peloton and the leader. The follow group is 45 seconds behind the leader.

20 kilometers to go: The pursuit group consisting of Antoine Berlin and Samuele Zoccarato was caught by the trio of Burak Abay, Lennert Teugels and Ryan Cavanagh. The newly formed five-piece pursuit group narrowed the gap to the lone leader Filippo Conca to 26 seconds.

13 kilometers left: Before the final climb, Filippo Conca was caught by the group of five rivals. In the peloton, the Burgos-BH team is making pace.

10 kilometers to go: The escape group was captured and all groups were reunited. We will watch the sprint finish in Marmaris. In the peloton, the Bora-Hansgrohe team sets the pace.

Last mile: Even though Danny van Poppel was the first to cross the line in the highly competitive sprint finish, he was disqualified for obstructing Giovanni Lonardi right behind him. Enrico Zanoncello takes second place and Max Kanter takes third place.

The tour will continue tomorrow with the fourth stage of 137.9 kilometers between Marmaris and Bodrum.
