April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Giresun, as in the whole country.

On the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebration ceremonies started at 09.30 with the wreath presentation at the Atatürk Monument in front of Giresun Governorship.

While various programs and events were held in schools across Giresun on the occasion of the holiday, the official celebration program in the City Center was organized under the coordination of the Provincial Directorate of National Education.

I express my gratitude to all our MPs who have worked for the independence, future and development of Turkey under the umbrella of our Parliament since April 23, 1920, and fought for the manifestation of the national will.

I remember with mercy and gratitude the Commander-in-Chief of our War of Independence, the first President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and all our martyrs and veterans.

The opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was the turning point of our struggle for independence, and our nation took the first step of a new state in which sovereignty rests unconditionally.

Despite the negative conditions of the country, our supreme assembly successfully concluded the struggle for independence with the power it received from the nation, and declared to the whole world that our nation, which has lived free since the beginning of time, will live free forever.

April 23 is not an ordinary date for us. It is a turning point, the best example of the fact that the great Turkish Nation, whose feet were wanted to be tied with chains of captivity, did not accept this captivity and that the end of patience is salvation. April 23 is the sign of a nation rising from its ashes.

On April 23; In addition to being the most important symbol of democracy, national will and nation’s sovereignty, it is also a sign of the value our nation attaches to its children and its trust in its youth. As a nation, we see our children as our most valuable assets in the world, just like our independence, and we cherish them. The fact that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gifted this meaningful day to children shows the value and importance he attaches to our children.

Our holiday is celebrated in a festive atmosphere with the participation of children from various countries of the world, allowing the sublime values ​​such as peace, love and brotherhood to be experienced intensively and to express the longing for a better world.

Today we are experiencing three joys together; National Sovereignty enthusiasm, spring enthusiasm and the holiday enthusiasm of our children, who are our future. How beautiful it is that we experience joy after joy. April 23 is an effort to build a world where no child is sad or afraid. April 23 is a day of joy, enthusiasm, solidarity and sharing for the children of our country and the whole world.

However, this year, unfortunately, tens of thousands of children in various parts of the world could not see April 23. They are exposed to many problems, from wars to the dangers of hunger and drought, from ill-treatment to being forced to work at a young age. All kinds of violence against children must be prevented and those who engage in violence must be punished in the most severe way.

Our most valuable treasure, which is the guarantee of our future, is to raise our children as people who love their country and nation, who work and produce for their country; It is our common responsibility and our greatest goal to ensure that they are raised as young people who can make decisions on their own, are self-confident, equipped to cope with life’s challenges, are enterprising, broad-minded, loyal to their values ​​and talented.

Children should live like children. This is our most sacred, most urgent and most irreversible duty towards our children and their future.

National Sovereignty, which lives in your pure hearts as one of the indispensable values ​​of our nation, is such a light that chains melt, crowns and thrones burn and disappear in front of it.

With the idea that ‘Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation’, our Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which opened with prayers on April 23, became the pioneer of our independence and future struggle, and the torch of freedom was lit here on the road to the establishment of our Republic.
