35-year-old Çelik, who applied to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s “I have many reasons to live in my village” project last year, received support from 100 sheep and returned from Erzurum center to Tutmaç, one of the rural neighborhoods of Oltu district. Çelik, who is married and has one child, settled in the sheepfold and house he inherited from his grandfather and started taking care of the sheep he bought with state support. Çelik takes his animals to the mountains and pastures of the settlement at an altitude of approximately 2 thousand every day at 07:00 and takes care of the animals in the evening.

Çelik, who obtained 250 lambs from the sheep he bought, bought 100 more sheep with his income, increasing the number of sheep to 450.

– “I aim for 1000 sheep”

Bayram Çelik said that he was happy to return to his village and that he felt good in the mountains. Stating that he did not want to leave the land inherited from his ancestors empty, Çelik said, “Last year, thanks to our state, it encouraged us with the 100 sheep project. I sold last year’s male lambs and bought female lambs instead. I hope to target 1000 sheep.” said. Çelik stated that animal husbandry is a high-income but difficult job, but he enjoys traveling with his animals in the mountains until the evening. Stating that animal husbandry cannot be done without love and that his wife is his supporter, Çelik said:

“I was living in the city center. I saw that our land was very large, endless and empty, so I decided to start this business. When we listened to the conversations of our elders in our village, there used to be 3-4 thousand sheep and 1000-1500 cattle. But now there are neither cattle nor sufficient numbers. “We have small cattle. The work is a lot of work, but there are a lot of things we need to think about and do beyond the work. Our aim was to increase sheep farming in our country’s economy, and I think I was successful enough.” Stating that he aims to double the number of animals, Çelik said, “My goal is big, I will continue to do this job. We pick up our animals at 07.00 and go out to the field. In the summer, we graze until 9 in the evening.” he said. AA
