April 23 enthusiasm in Van and Bitlis

Behçet DALMAZ-Orhan AŞAN-Özcan ÇİRİŞ/VAN-BİTLİS, (DHA)- April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day was celebrated with various events and colorful shows in VAN and Bitlis. The celebrations in Van were held in the Van Lake Kindergarten garden in Edremit district, and the celebrations in Bitlis were held in the İsmail Eren Sports Complex.

National Sovereignty and Children’s Day events started with laying wreaths at the Atatürk Monument in Van and Bitlis. The activities in Van then continued in the garden of the Van Lake Kindergarten with 12 classrooms, which was opened in Edremit District. After a moment of silence and the reading of the national anthem, demonstrations from different regions were held. The activities prepared by various schools were watched with interest by their families. Governor Ozan Balcı, Chief Public Prosecutor Harun Karahan, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Adem Şen, Police Chief Murat Mutlu, National Education Director M. Nurettin Aras, students, teachers and parents attended the April 23 celebrations in Van. Metropolitan Mayor Abdullah Zeydan, whose seat in the protocol was left vacant, did not attend the celebrations. During the celebrations, awards were given to students who were successful in the fields of poetry, composition and painting. Governor Balcı and his entourage took souvenir photos with the students in front of the Van Lake Kindergarten, which was later opened, and toured the classrooms.

CELEBRATIONS IN BITLIS WERE HELD AT İSMAİL EREN COMPLEX

The celebrations in Bitlis were held at the İsmail Eren Sports Complex. Bitlis Governor Erol Karaömeroğlu, Bitlis Mayor Nesrullah Tanglay, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Eyüp Subaşı, Police Chief Ortaç Şekeroğlu, Provincial Director of National Education Bilal Gür, institution chiefs, teachers, students and parents attended the celebrations. The celebrations started with the reading of the Independence March, and after speeches about the meaning and importance of the day, students performed various shows. (DHA)
