President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan went to Iraq after 12 years. 26 agreements were signed during the visit.

One of them was the Security Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement covers more than 40 areas of cooperation. It includes mutual visits on many subjects, from mutual language training to simulation training and exercise observation.

Within the scope of the agreement, military training will also be provided to the Iraqi army, especially on terrorism. There will also be commando training in Isparta.

Additionally, the establishment of a Joint Operations Center was also included in the framework agreement. This center will focus on border security coordination and intelligence cooperation. Work on its location and scope will continue. There is no joint operation process, but Ankara has some expectations from Baghdad and Erbil in the fight against terrorism.

Military Health Cooperation Protocol was also signed between Türkiye and Iraq. Soldiers from Iraq will come to the University of Health Sciences.

Another agreement signed includes cooperation in the field of water. Türkiye is determined to find a solution to the water shortage in Iraq. All kinds of support will be provided for this. President Erdoğan’s Special Representative for Iraq, Veysel Eroğlu, shared the details with CNN TÜRK. According to this; Turkey will share its experiences in many areas such as the construction of many dams, irrigation facilities, transmission lines, reduction of water leakages, improvement of streams and erosion control. Water will be used as the locomotive of development between the two countries.

In order to achieve the trade target between the two countries, it was decided to establish an economic and trade joint committee, as well as the Development Path.

Among the 26 agreements, there were important topics from education to agriculture, from energy to health.
