Colombian fashion designer Nancy Gonzalez, whose designs are preferred by many celebrities, is accused by the Miami Federal Court of smuggling crocodile leather bags. Gonzalez, who was arrested in Colombia in 2022, was extradited to the USA for trial.

The famous designer admitted the charges at his trial in Miami and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. It was stated that Gonzalez’s crimes violated US wildlife laws.

Asking for tolerance for the famous designer during the hearing, Gonzalez’s lawyers described his journey as “a divorced woman with two children, whose career started with an old sewing machine in her home in the third world country where she lived, from the days when she designed belts for her friends, to a fashion icon leaving behind brands such as Dior, Prada and Gucci.” She described it as “her transformation into a single mother.” Speaking in court, 71-year-old Gonzalez said that he was deeply sorry for not scrupulously complying with US laws and that his only wish was to hug his 103-year-old mother once again and apologized to the US.
