French painter Claude Monet’s painting “Water Lilies” is good for mental health.

In the study conducted by the University of Vienna, Monet’s “Water Lilies” painting in England was shown to a group of 240 people via smartphones, laptops and desktop computers.

In the study, participants filled out a questionnaire about their mood before and after the painting was shown. Accordingly, it has been observed that even seeing the painting in question online for a short time, such as 2 minutes, improves people’s moods.

MacKenzie Trupp, from the Department of Psychology at the University of Vienna, said that the results of the research do not mean staying at home from now on, but that people who cannot go to museums can actually benefit from art in the digital environment.

Trupp stated that large screens, such as computers, may be more useful to see the improvement in mood clearly.

The results of the study were published in the journal “Computers in Human Behavior”.

French painter Claude Monet settled in the town of Giverny at the age of 43, bought the house he entered as a tenant in 7 years, and arranged his dream garden in front of it when he had sufficient financial means. Monet’s painting Nympheas en Fleur (Blooming Water Lilies), inspired by his garden in Giverny between 1914 and 1917, sold for $84.6 million at an auction held in New York in May 2018.

Monet’s paintings are known as the most famous works of the “Impressionism” movement.
