Almost all the passengers were sleeping, the plane suddenly started losing altitude… The cause of the accident was revealed when the audio recordings were published! Everything happened in 2 minutes and 6 seconds

--

As the calendar showed March 23, 1994, flight 593 belonging to Russia’s largest airline company, Aeroflot, took off from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. There were 63 passengers and 12 crew members on the plane heading towards Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong.

The captain pilot of the plane was Andrei Viktorovich Danilov, who had been working at Aeroflot since 1992. Danilov was a highly experienced pilot with over 9,500 hours of flight time. Moreover, he was very familiar with the Airbus A310 model aircraft he was using at that time.

Danilov’s assistants were Igor Vasilyevich Piskaryov, with 5,885 hours of flight experience, and Paroslav Vladimirovich Kudrinski, with 8,940 hours of flight experience.

EVERYTHING STARTED CALMLY

It didn’t seem like anything unusual would happen in the first hours of the flight, everything was going well.

Kudrinski’s two children were also on the plane. The children were making their first trip abroad on the plane their father was using. Kudrinski invited his very excited children into the cockpit to have that experience.

At that time, the plane was on autopilot and most of the passengers were sleeping.

As the clock showed 00.43, Kudrinski’s 13-year-old daughter sat on her father’s couch and started playing with the settings in front of her. This way, he would feel like he was flying the plane himself.

Eight minutes later, Kudrinski’s 15-year-old son took control of the plane. The child probably thought that the autopilot was active and that his actions would not affect the course of the plane.

AUTOPILOT DISABLED

By 00:54, Kudrinski’s son had been fiddling with the control stick for about 30 seconds. As a result, the autopilot was disabled and the flight controls returned to manual.

No one on the plane was aware that a 15-year-old boy was in control. The autopilot could not be reactivated because the commands given by the pilots and the commands given by the child did not match each other.

Finally, the connection between the autopilot servo and the flight control surface that allowed the plane to roll left and right was broken.

At that time, the system started giving silent warnings, but the pilots did not notice it. Because they generally used Russian-made planes and did not have much knowledge of this mechanism in Airbus.

Then the plane suddenly entered the mountains. Because the autopilot could not maintain altitude due to the angle of the wings, the plane was descending rapidly.

THEY ACHIEVED CONTROL BUT IT WAS NOT ENOUGH

Captain Kudrinski immediately ordered the copilot to take control. He hurriedly lifted his son from his seat and tried to take control of the plane.

Although the pilots eventually managed to reset the plane to autopilot settings, it was too late. The slopes opposite them rose at a 90-degree angle and it was not possible for the A310 to turn at such a steep angle. So the job of saving the plane fell to the pilots.

The pilots managed to lift the nose of the plane. However, in order to avoid hitting the hillside, they made the plane steeper too much and caused it to spin around itself.

The plane was losing altitude rapidly. They soon dropped below safe flying altitude in the mountainous region.

EVERYTHING HAPPENED IN 2 MINUTES AND 6 SECONDS

At 00.59, the air traffic control tower in Novokuznetsk was waiting for a position confirmation notification from the aircraft. But that notification never came; The plane suddenly disappeared from the radar screens.

As it turned out, Flight 593 crashed into the Kuznetsk Alatau mountain range in the Kemerovo Oblast in southern Russia at an estimated speed of 160 miles per hour at 00:58, just 2 minutes and 6 seconds after these events took place.

While the plane was shattered into pieces, there were no survivors among the passengers and crew.

In the first statements made by Aeroflot, it was stated that the cause of the accident was not pilot error. However, when the transcripts of the audio recordings of the conversations in the cockpit were published, company officials had to share the facts with the public.
