French President Emmanuel Macron once again emphasized that the defense of Europe should be separated from NATO, where the USA is the leader.
Calling for Europe to have a stronger and more integrated defense, Macron said that Europe should put forward a more assertive vision of the European Union on the global stage and that the continent should not become a slave of the USA.
“There is a risk of our Europe dying. We are not equipped to face the risks,” said Macron, in his speech at Sorbonne University in Paris, warning that military, economic and other pressures could weaken and disintegrate the EU.
Saying that Russia should not be allowed to win in Ukraine, Macron called for increasing Europe’s cyber security capacity, building closer defense ties with the United Kingdom after Brexit, and establishing a “European Academy” to train high-ranking military personnel.
