The US Senate approved the $95 billion foreign aid package, which also provides military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

President Joe Biden is expected to sign the bill and turn it into law.

The Senate, the upper house of the US Congress, supported the aid package passed by the House of Representatives on Saturday.

The bill also foresees $61 billion in military aid to Ukraine, and the US Department of Defense states that the aid will begin to be delivered “within days.”

The bill, supported by both parties, passed with 79 votes to 18.

“This critical legislation will make our nation and our world safer while helping our friends defend themselves against terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin,” Biden said in his written statement.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also emphasized that the United States has shown that it will not turn its back on its allies.

The Senate passed a similar aid package in February, but a group of conservatives who opposed new aid to Ukraine prevented its vote in the House of Representatives.

Last week, members of the Democratic and Republican parties came together to overcome this opposition.

In the end, foreign aid was agreed to, along with a freeze on Russian assets held in Western banks, new embargoes on Russia, Iran and China, and a regulation that would force TikTok owner ByteDance to sell the US arm of the social media app.

The aid package also envisages $24.6 billion in military aid to Israel, of which $9.1 billion will be allocated as humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Another $8.1 billion will be given to US allies in the Asia-Pacific region, including Taiwan.
