It was reported that Jian G., deputy of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party and MEP Maximilian Krah, was detained in Dresden yesterday on charges of spying on behalf of China.

In the statement made by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, it was stated that 43-year-old Jian G., a dual German-Chinese citizen, is believed to have been spying on behalf of the Chinese intelligence service for years.

It was stated that Jian G., who was accused of working for a foreign intelligence service, also spied on Chinese dissidents in Germany and conveyed information to the foreign intelligence service about the negotiations and decisions taken in the European Parliament in January.

Deputy Krah stated that he learned from the media that Jian G. was detained. Krah said, “I have no further information,” and emphasized that espionage activity on behalf of a foreign state is a serious allegation and that if proven, the employee will be dismissed immediately.

ATTACK ON EUROPEAN DEMOCRACY FROM THE INSIDE

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that a “comprehensive investigation” would be conducted regarding the accusations. Minister Faeser said: “If it is confirmed that he spied on behalf of Chinese intelligence services, this would constitute an attack on European democracy from the inside. Anyone who employs such an employee is responsible for this. “All connections and backgrounds must be clarified,” he said.

On the other hand, 3 people accused of spying on China were detained in Germany yesterday.
