British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that his country will increase defense spending to 2.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Sunak held a joint press conference as part of their visit to Poland. Altar; Listing the threats posed by Russia, North Korea and China to the UK, he assessed that these countries were becoming “more assertive” but that the danger should not be exaggerated.

“We are not on the brink of war, nor do we want it.” Sunak said, but argued that this situation poses a direct threat to the lives and livelihoods of people in the UK, as well as in Europe and around the world.

Sunak underlined that further action was needed now to deter these growing threats.

In terms of England’s defense today’s “turning point” Sunak emphasized that “We will increase defense spending to a new baseline level of 2.5 percent of GDP by 2030.” said.

Sunak pointed out that this commitment means £75 billion of additional financing for defense spending over the next 6 years. “We have a clear plan for what we will spend, when we will spend it and how we will pay for it. It is a plan that will make the UK by far the largest defense power in Europe and the second largest in NATO.” he said.

Prime Minister Sunak said the additional funding represents the “biggest strengthening in a generation” of the country’s defenses to meet the challenges of an increasingly dangerous world.

STOLTENBERG MENTIONED RUSSIA, IRAN AND CHINA

Stoltenberg also pointed out in his speech that the war in Ukraine is the biggest conflict in Europe since the Second World War.

NATO Secretary General, “The decisions we make today will have consequences for future generations. We must not hesitate. We live in a more dangerous world. Authoritarian powers are increasingly aligned. Russia receives support from China, Iran and North Korea in its war.” made his assessment.

Stoltenberg said that Iran provides unmanned aerial vehicles and ammunition to Russia, and North Korea provides ammunition to Russia. “In return, Moscow mortgages its future to Beijing. Moscow, in turn, provides technology to North Korea and Iran to help them develop their missile and nuclear programs.” he commented.

Stoltenberg emphasized that security is global, “NATO is a defense alliance. We are not seeking conflict with Russia, but we will keep our 1 billion people safe. 10 thousand NATO soldiers stationed in Poland send a clear message that NATO will protect and defend all its allies.” he said.

USA MESSAGE FROM STOLTENBERG

Stoltenberg answered the question of whether the results of the US elections to be held on November 5 will affect the relations between NATO and the USA. “There may be debates and differences on some issues, but fundamentally I am confident that the United States, Europe and North America will stand together after the US elections.” he replied.

“A strong NATO is beneficial for Europe, but a strong NATO is also beneficial for the United States.” Stoltenberg said that he hopes that the USA will remain a loyal ally, regardless of the outcome of the elections.
