According to the news of ABC, after the health insurance company Medibank and the communication company Optus, which were hacked in the country last year, Latitude Financial announced that a large amount of customer data was seized with the cyber attack it suffered.
Announcing that it was hacked through the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), the company reported that the personal data of approximately 330 thousand customers was stolen on March 16.
The company, which is stated to have approximately 3 million customers, noted that 100 thousand driver’s licenses were among the sensitive information stolen.
The company, which sent e-mails to its customers about the cyber attack, stated that its social media accounts are not currently used in order to avoid further security risks.
The company did not disclose whether the hackers demanded a ransom.
Data from Medibank customers was posted on the “dark web” last year after the insurer refused to pay a Russian-linked organization a ransom for its stolen data.
The government had previously supported companies’ decision not to pay ransoms.
At the same time, former Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced his $1.7 billion cybersecurity plans. With the renewed strategy, it was stated that a national cyber office would be established within the Ministry of Interior.
