Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s TMSC has announced that it will install its cutting-edge technology in Arizona.

Morris Chang, the founder of the giant company that supplies chips to technology giants such as Apple and Qualcomm in Taiwan, which has faced increasing military pressure from Beijing in recent months, announced the plan at a press conference in Taipei.

Expressing the envy of TMSC, which produces an estimated 90 percent of the world’s super-advanced computer chips, Chang stated that the company will produce 3-nanometer chips, the most advanced technology, in Arizona.

Chang met with Kamala Harris, Vice President of the semiconductor industry, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders meeting. “Harris welcomes TSMC’s investment in Arizona,” said Ghang.

HOWEVER, IT COSTS MUCH MORE

“Not only do I believe, but I know for certain, that the cost of producing chips in the US will be at least 55 percent higher than in Taiwan. But that doesn’t stop some of the capacity from moving to the US,” Chang said at a press briefing on Saturday’s sidelines to APEC. The chip manufacturing process we carry is the most advanced of any company in the US, and that’s very important to the US.” he said.

The company has already committed at least $12 billion to build its first facility in Arizona in 2020. At the time, the tech giant said the facility would “use TSMC’s 5 nanometer technology for semiconductor manufacturing” and “directly create more than 1,600 high-tech professional jobs.” Production is expected to begin in 2024.
