When we look at the formation process of natural diamonds, it takes billions of years due to the effects of extreme pressure and temperatures. In addition, studies have been carried out for some time for diamonds that behave like diamonds and can be produced synthetically. A group of scientists at the South Korean Basic Science Institute managed to produce diamonds synthetically. And in a short time like 150 minutes, is this possible?

Synthetic diamond production is an area that has been studied for many years. Although systematic research on diamond production began in the 1940s in the United States, Sweden and the Soviet Union, no tangible results have been achieved to date.

High temperatures and pressure are needed to produce synthetic diamonds in a laboratory environment. The synthetic diamond produced also needs to be crushed for a long time. Research in South Korea found a method that can achieve this in minutes.

IT HAS BECOME POSSIBLE TO PRODUCE SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS IN A SHORT TIME

The scientists who made the invention preferred a liquid metal alloy for high-speed diamond production. The preferred material was transformed into diamond at 1 atm pressure and 1,025 degrees Celsius. The research article in question was published in Nature and, reportedly, the process was completed in just 150 minutes. The liquid metal alloy contains metals such as gallium, iron, nickel and silicon. Said mixture was reacted with methane and hydrogen.

Although the study was published in a reputable science journal, it is stated that it is at an early stage. Although the researchers say that the technique they found is promising, they also underline that the studies will continue.
