Apple’s market share of iPhone activations in America has fallen dramatically. The number of iPhone activations dropped by 33%, reaching the lowest level in recent years. Data for the last four quarters were provided by CIRP.

iPhone activations are slowly falling

It’s clear that Apple faces stiff competition from Android smartphone manufacturers, which currently hold two-thirds of the activation market share. However, the fact that many devices running Google’s mobile operating system are quite affordable compared to iPhones is one of the several reasons for the decrease in iPhone activations. As the prices of smartphones increase, their durability also increases. This is another reason, but the most important one is that users have not been able to find a valid reason to switch to a new model in iPhones for a long time. Apple hasn’t added anything new to iPhones in terms of features for a long time. Users prefer to wait for the next model.

CIRP’s latest report shows that two out of three new smartphones sold in America are Android devices. Apple hasn’t seen numbers this low since 2017. Meanwhile, no major design changes are expected in the iPhone 16 series. There will be no design differences other than a new button (called capture button) that makes it easier to access the camera application and a vertical camera layout for flat models.
