Perrier was ordered to destroy two million bottles of water after “faecal” bacteria were detected in a well in the Gard region in southern France.
France announced that fecal and human-derived bacteria were detected in the mineral water of Perrier, a subsidiary of Nestle. French authorities therefore asked him to stop the use of a well “as a precaution”.
It is thought that the presence of fecal samples in the products is associated with the Monica storm that hit the southeast of France in mid-March. The well, located in Vereze near Nimes, has been producing mineral water for the Perrier brand since it was founded in 1903.
BACTERIA IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM
Although the business was expected to “relaunch at an appropriate time under the supervision of the authorities”, according to Nestle, the mineral water maker had already been under pressure since the end of January after admitting to using banned practices on some of its brands to maintain quality.
