IMM celebrated April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day with organizations that lasted throughout the day in different parts of the city. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality President Ekrem İmamoğlu, who participated in many of these programs and shared the April 23 enthusiasm, made the final of the holiday together with the Istanbulites who filled Üsküdar Square. Her husband, Dr. İmamoğlu, who went on stage hand in hand with Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, was accompanied by children from 15 different countries in folklore costumes.

Emphasizing that April 23 is the holiday of not only Turkish children but also all children of the world, İmamoğlu said:

“WHEN I SAY MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK, I GET EXCITED”

“Üsküdar excites me very much. Istanbul excites me very much. Especially when I say Republic, I get even more excited. When I say Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, I get excited. When I say Turkey, I say sacrifice my life. Happy national sovereignty day, happy children’s day. Atatürk’s gift is April 23, Happy birthday. Applaud with enthusiasm. Today is a holiday, of course we will be happy. We will meet in the streets and squares. We will celebrate the holidays together, be together, feel each other with enthusiasm. , is the most beautiful thing in the world. The peace within us, the enthusiasm within us, believe me, it is good not only for Istanbul, not only for Turkey, but for the whole world.

“TOGETHER WE SAID ‘FULLY INDEPENDENT Türkiye’”

What have we done as a nation? We became one as a nation. We united our power and will under one roof. What have we achieved because we were able to come together under one roof? We saved our country from occupation and achieved our freedom and independence together. We all said together, ‘Fully independent Türkiye’. Because we were able to bring together all the different voices and colors of this country under one roof, we were able to become a developing and strengthening country. April 23 is a day when an occupied country is reborn strongly with the power of national sovereignty. On April 23, 1920 we; We accepted the will of you, the nation, not of a person or a group. What did we say? We said, ‘Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation.’ We said that the Turkish Grand National Assembly represents the will of the nation. What has happened in this country since that day? We said, ‘Whatever the people say will happen.’ In this country, no one can rule despite or disregarding the nation. No one can take orders from anyone other than the nation.

“WHAT DOES A NATION DO TO THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW THEIR PLACES?”

There may be those who see themselves above the nation. But what does the nation do to those who do not know their place? He knows very well how to give the lesson he deserves. For this, ‘miracle democracy’ is enough for everything. One ballot paper and one seal is enough for everything. In this country, there is no one more valuable or more privileged than a citizen. No way, no way. There is no higher position than being a citizen in this country; There is no. The foundation of the establishment of the Turkish Grand National Assembly includes the concepts of equality, brotherhood, freedom and independence. If we cannot protect our democracy and our Republic, we cannot protect our children either. We will not allow our children, our brilliant young people, to lose their rights to anyone who does not offer equal opportunities and opportunities to all the children of this country. We will fight tirelessly. Are we ready for the fight? Children of Istanbul, children of this nation, young people of Istanbul, to work hard with enthusiasm, intelligence and science; are we ready? We will never leave you alone with injustice. To all the children of this country; To the east-west, south-north to Kars, Ardahan, Edirne, Çanakkale, Adana, Gaziantep, Sinop, Samsun, Sivas, Erzurum, Artvin Together, we will protect Trabzon, everywhere, the children of the entire nation.

“THE MOST VALUABLE PRINCIPLE IN THE WORLD: PEACE AT HOME, PEACE IN THE WORLD”

Peace at home, peace in the world… This principle, this principle, is the most valuable principle in the world. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said this principle. Here we will follow in his footsteps. And you know what we’ll say? Let the wars end. Oppressed people should not be oppressed anywhere in the world. Children should not die. Young people should not die. Women should not die. We will work hard together for peace at home and peace in the world. We will fight together for the Republic, for peace in the world, and for our Turkey, so that all the children of the world can find peace. The development levels of cities and countries are measured by the value given to children. We work hard to make Istanbul a city where our children are respected and their needs are met with care. Respecting children starts with allowing them to express themselves. I respect children very much. I have great respect for all the rights they have. I accept that each child has a unique personality.

“WE WILL WORK HARD FOR EVERYONE LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY”

April 23 is also the day to commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gifted this meaningful day to children, and everyone who fought with him, his comrades in arms, the grandfather, grandmother, and ancestors of each of your past, with love, respect and gratitude. So be grateful to them. Never forget to respect and be grateful to Ataturk and his comrades, and all the elders of this nation who fought in the past. Don’t forget them. We will not forget and we will never let you forget. We are determined to embrace the beautiful days that await us, to protect our values from our past, and to walk towards the future together with hope and courage. We will work hard for everyone living in this country. We will work hard to make everyone happy and peaceful. We will build the most beautiful city in the world in Istanbul. We will work hard to ensure that you live your life in democracy and peace. “We will work hard for all of you to have good jobs in the future, for your education, for a beautiful environment, for culture, art and science.”

Sinem Dedetaş, the first female Mayor in the history of Üsküdar, said briefly on the stage with her husband Barış Dedetaş:

“IF I BECAME PRESIDENT, IT IS THANKS TO THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY”

“Every April 23, I too go back to my childhood. I relive that childlike excitement, happiness and pride. I remember how we prepared for the arrival of April 23 weeks in advance and how we looked forward to this day. Then, I have these beautiful memories thanks to Atatürk’s vision that transcends centuries. I am proud to realize once again what I have and to follow in the footsteps of such a great leader. From a girl who prepares every April 23 with care and excitement and proudly celebrates the holiday with the Turkish flag in her hand, today I am a Republican woman who has the honor of serving Üsküdar. , this is thanks to the equality of opportunity offered by the Republic of Turkey. This means National Sovereignty. Unfortunately, we have experienced days when April 23 and other national holidays were not celebrated together with the same enthusiasm as in our childhood. It started to be celebrated again in Istanbul, together with all our citizens, with an enthusiasm befitting their importance. I would like to thank our President and the valuable employees of IMM for this. I would like to thank everyone and valuable artists who contributed to the event. And of course, I would like to thank you very much for coming here today and sharing the enthusiasm of April 23.”

April 23 enthusiasm reached its peak with the Zeynep Bastık concert.
