In a statement to the US press regarding the prisoner exchange reached with Iran, White House officials announced that 5 US citizens detained in Iran were released. Officials stated that US citizens and their two family members left Iran on a plane a few hours ago and noted that these people would first go to Doha, the capital of Qatar, for health checks. Officials stated that the people in question will return to their countries on a US government plane after health checks.

On the other hand, the President of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Ferzin, stated in the press statement he made today in the capital Tehran that “they received information from the Doha administration that Iranian bank accounts in Qatar were activated.” Ferzin stated that the assets released within the framework of the prisoner exchange agreement reached with the USA amounted to 5 billion 573 million 492 thousand euros and that Iranian funds were deposited in bank accounts in Qatar. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kenani announced that 5 US citizen prisoners would be released today.
PRISONER EXCHANGE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE USA AND IRAN
In the news in the US and Iranian media, it was shared that the two countries would exchange prisoners in exchange for the release of Iran’s 6 billion dollars frozen in South Korea. The White House confirmed on August 10 that 5 US citizens detained in Iran were released from prison and placed under house arrest. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator Ali Bakıri also drew attention to the developments in the negotiations with the USA regarding the prisoner exchange and noted that Iran’s frozen assets and many Iranian citizens detained in the USA would be released. President of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, announced on August 12 that the blockage of assets frozen in South Korea was removed.
