‘Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy Returns to Theaters in June 2024

“The Fellowship of the Ring” will be released on June 8, “The Two Towers” on June 9, and “The Return of the King” on June 10 in movie theaters such as AMC, Cinemark and Regal. Tickets are available through the Fathom Events website.

Other Movies of the Early 2000s Are Also Available in Cinemas

The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy marks a period when other films released in the early 2000s also returned to theaters. Just this month, Sony Pictures achieved great success with the movie “Spider-Man 2” starring Tobey Maguire. The 20-year-old film ranked second at the North American box office on Monday, earning $805,000.

“Spider-Man 2” was only the second of eight “Spider-Man” movies to return to theaters, so its big revenue could encourage other companies to undertake similar re-releases.

Universal Pictures re-released “Shrek 2” in March 2024 in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary. Disney will join the frenzy and bring the movie back to theaters in May to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.”

While these re-releases offer the opportunity to show how old films have been revived with new technologies, they also appeal to audiences seeking nostalgia.
