Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Review, Expected to Unite the X-Men and Marvel Universes

--

The second Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has been released. The first trailer only showed us the wolverine at the end. This trailer also focuses on the wolverine character, which will do justice to the name of the movie. In fact, we wouldn’t be wrong if we say that the first teaser is focused on Deadpool and this trailer is focused on Wolverine. I didn’t write a review for the first trailer, thinking that the second trailer would be more satisfying. Considering the two trailers together, we have a lot of material.

Before reviewing the trailer, I want to look at Deadpool’s history in cinema, why the third movie was delayed so much, and what being in the MCU can add to Deadpool. We actually see Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, for the first time in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, Deadpool in that movie was a poorly interpreted character that would attract a lot of reaction from comic book fans. Factors such as the different handling of his origin, his powers, turning completely into a puppet, and of course not breaking the fourth wall, which is the character’s trademark, presented us with a character that was very difficult for fans to watch. The fact that the mouth of a character with the adjective “loquacious mercenary” next to his name was completely covered seemed to deliberately harm the character. All these caused the planned spin-0ff project to be shelved.

Years have passed. A test image was released. That test image had a Deadpool that fans had been waiting for years, which was the exact opposite of what they saw in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, and which finally carried the comic book atmosphere. 20th Century Fox finally made perhaps the best decision regarding the X-Men rights so far and approved the movie of Deadpool, the version we saw in the test footage. Two Deadpool movies were released in 2016 and 2018. These films achieved huge box office success of 782 and 785 million dollars, despite their more modest budgets than their contemporaries’ superhero films, of 58 and 110 million dollars, respectively. They were released as R-rated and proved that superhero movies aimed at a more adult audience could also be successful.

While waiting for the third movie and the X-Force spin-off movies, news came that Disney bought Fox.

This meant that X-Men, Fantastic Four and of course Deadpool could join the MCU. Yes, the Deadpool movies were successful, but as a person who thinks that Fox used the X-Men in the worst possible way, this news made me more happy for the MCU and the X-Men. Because Deadpool could continue to be in the MCU without any problems or reboots due to the natural structure of the character. We would have waited a little longer for a third Deadpool movie just because of the transition process. Being in the MCU would be an element that would greatly increase Deadpool’s interaction with other characters. MCU was much more interesting to me, instead of a Fox-Men universe that could not establish a timeline.

The predictions were generally correct. ryan reynolds remained in the role of deadpool. The character moved to the MCU. The adult level of the film, which is the most sensitive issue for fans, remained the same as in the first two films. While everything seemed to be going well, news came that would increase the expectations of the fans even more; hugh jackman is back as wolverine.

This trailer opens with Deadpool going to take Wolverine with him.

The wolverine variant we see is not the wolverine we see in the Fox-Men movies. Thus, the wonderful ending of the Logan movie is not ignored. As far as I understand, this variant is a version that has not been able to save any of the X-Men in its own universe and has lost its self-confidence. The memorial stones we see in the trailer may be the X-Men graves of that universe. There was something we learned in the previous trailer. The multiverse was entering a new crisis. He was hired by TV, which we saw in Loki in Deadpool, and was trying to stop this crisis. In this context, although the film will show many different universes, it seems that its main axis will focus on the void we see in Loki.

The most important character we see in Void is Cassandra Nova, who was only teased in the first trailer, and whom we meet fully here. Nova, who first appeared in comics in New X-Men issue 114 dated May 2001, is a character that had a huge impact on comics. He is the twin brother of Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, and unfortunately, he is responsible for the Genosha massacre, the most tragic event in the X-Men comics. In the movie, she is played by Emma Corrin, whom we know from the TV series The Crown.

It is possible to see many characters we have seen in previous X-Men movies in the trailers.

We saw pyro in the previous trailer. In this trailer, we clearly see lady deathstrike, toad and azazel. Cassandra Nova, who used Giant-Man’s head as her headquarters, obviously attracted many villains who appeared in previous X-Men films to her side. He formed a kind of brotherhood of evil mutants. The fact that these scenes in the void will have a Mad Max atmosphere is another factor that increases curiosity.

Of course, the fact that Wolverine finally wears his costume in the comics is a factor that makes fans very happy. For some reason, Fox movies were very strict about wearing the original costumes. It might have been acceptable to think like this in the early 2000s, but we actually saw in the MCU movies how unnecessary it was to insistently stay away from the original costumes even after the First Class movie. This trailer shows us how beautiful the X-Men characters look in their original costumes.

The trailer hides almost all of what the movie has to offer us.

A few old X-Men villains. Cassandra does not display anything other than tva, void and alioth, which we already know from nova and mcu. When the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was coming, an expectation was created that the movie never was and did not try to be. I think that expectation caused a bit of an overreaction against the existing version of the film. But I think this is the real movie we’ll be expecting cameos and multiverse madness from. It is difficult to count the possibilities that are rumored or teased in some way. I can only say that the characters from all the Marvel movies shot by Fox are on the table. This includes the movies Daredevil and Fantastic Four. We don’t know yet which ones they will be. But everyone can take part in the movie in some way.

I wonder?

Deadpool & Wolverine movie comes at a very important point for MCU.

Unfortunately, MCU hasn’t been the same lately. With the emergence of Disney+ and Bob Chapek’s management’s philosophy of prioritizing the increase in the number of content, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige were burdened more than ever. This caused the MCU, which had achieved a certain standard, to produce works that were far below their standards. With the return of Bob Iger management, this intensity was seriously reduced and the understanding of quality is greater than quantity came again. As it is known, Marvel Studios will release only one movie this year, which is unusual. Other films will be postponed to 2025 and will be reworked. The only movie that was released is of course the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which is our topic today. The film has a very important responsibility. To pave the way for the rise again for Marvel Studios, which has suffered and lost a lot of blood, not only in terms of story but also in real terms.
