Zonguldak’s Devrek Mayor Özcan Ulupınar stated that the debts they inherited from CHP reached 250 million liras and said, “We inherited a serious wreck.”
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç came to Devrek District of Zonguldak to make a series of visits after the March 31 Local Government Elections. Tunç met with Mayor Özcan Ulupınar here and wished him good luck.

Mayor Özcan Ulupınar, who spoke after Minister Tunç, said: “Minister, we have a debt exceeding 250 million. Unfortunately, we do not have a municipal service building. Earthquake reinforcement could not be done in the municipality building, it will be demolished. We are here temporarily. We have 250 employees. Our monthly personnel expenses are 11 million. Our incoming money is 7 million. The other day, the brakes of our official car burst. Thank goodness we didn’t have an accident. The road was empty. Thank God we were going slow. We inherited a serious wreck. I bought such a municipality here in 2004. We renewed them all. We had brought the equipment to zero. There were very serious debts at that time. We fixed it. Unfortunately, they met us as a wreck again with scraps. They increased the debt from 40 million to 250 million. Last month, they gave our employees an 80 percent raise. The number of employees is too high. There should be 130 employees. There are 250 employees. Salaries go up to 74 thousand liras, but we will not fit in behind them. We will not make excuses, we will succeed. We didn’t expect this this much, but we knew it. If God permits, as you say, we will overcome this problem with the support of our governor, district governor, deputies, you and our government. We have experience. “Our team is good.”
