On April 12, a cable car pole on the Sarısu-Tünektepe cable car line in Antalya’s Konyaaltı district fell over and hit a moving cabin. As a result of the cabin collapsing, Lawyer Memiş Gümüş lost his life and 17 people were injured. 174 people who were trapped in the cable car cabins that stopped completely after the accident were evacuated after approximately 1 day of work.

HE WAS RESCUE 7 HOURS LATER

Cezmi Türkyılmaz, who lives in Çorlu district, was among the 174 people trapped in the cabins of the cable car he took for the trip to Antalya, where he went to visit his daughter who was studying at the university. Türkyılmaz and his family were rescued from the cabin where they were trapped by helicopter approximately 7 hours later.

‘A SPARK SPREAD ON THE CABIN’

Speaking about the incident, Machine Technician Cezmi Türkyılmaz used the following statements:

We took the cable car for sightseeing purposes and after completing the trip, we took the cable car to return. Meanwhile, sparks jumped from the poles onto our cabin. My daughter noticed this and told me too. I am also a mechanical technician who is knowledgeable about these issues.

‘Stop the Cable Car IMMEDIATELY’

When I looked up, the rollers on the pole were locked and not turning. I immediately reached the officers by calling the contact number written on the cabin and told them to stop the cable car to prevent an accident. He called and said ‘the pulleys on the pole are not turning. That’s why I said, ‘The steel rope is creating sparks, stop the cable car immediately.’

‘A DUST CLOUD COVERED THE AROUND’

They hung up the phone, it took 5 minutes, there was no stopping. 5 minutes later, I called again and said, ‘Do not take any passengers, stop the cable car immediately, sparks and smoke are coming out.’ When the cable car started again after 3-4 minutes, I looked back and saw a cloud of dust covering the area. Phone records can be checked. I probably called and warned him first. If it had been stopped and released when I called, this incident would not have happened.
