At the verdict hearing of the Gezi resistance case, held two years ago, a sentence of 18 years was given to Mücella Yapıcı, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman, Çiğdem Mater, Ali Hakan Altınay and Mine Özerden, and aggravated life imprisonment was given to businessman Osman Kavala. Following the Supreme Court’s reversal decision, Yapıcı and Altınay were released.

Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Mersin Provincial Coordination Board protested the illegal imprisonment of Gezi Trial detainees for two years. In the statements made, it was said, “In the 2nd year of unlawfulness, we stubbornly cry out, the Gezi Trial detainees should be released.”

“WE HAVE WITNESSED A MAJOR LEGAL SCANDAL FOR TWO YEARS”

The press release made at the Chamber of Architects Mersin Branch was read by TMMOB Mersin Provincial Coordination Board Secretary and Chamber of Civil Engineers Mersin Branch President Gülçen Barbaros Ak.

Reminding that two years have passed since the unlawful decision given by the court under the control of the government regarding the Gezi Resistance, one of the most magnificent popular movements in the country, Mayor Ak said, “We have witnessed a great legal scandal during these two years.”

TMMOB Board Member Mücella Yapıcı said that even though Hakan Atalay was released in this process, his friends, including Tayfun Kahraman, the former president of the Istanbul Branch of our Chamber of Urban Planners, and Can Atalay, Legal Counsel of the Chamber of Architects, have been in prison for 2 years, Gülçin Barbaros Ak, and Osman Kavala. He stated that he had been held in prison for 6 and a half years.

“DECISION; “IT IS FOR REVENGE AND PUNISHMENT”

“We all now know that this decision is not only directed at our friends,” said Mayor Ak, adding: “This decision is directed at the millions who shook and frightened the government in May-June 2013; It aims to punish the democratic rights of millions of people, to suppress peaceful and democratic demands, and to take revenge and punish in a way that does not suit public administrations.

The one-man regime, which is falling apart everywhere, uses the law not as a tool to ensure justice and eliminate injustice, but as a tool to punish social opposition.

This case, which sees the people’s free expression of their demands and taking to the streets for this purpose as a coup attempt, is an indication of the anti-democratic mentality of those who govern this country.

Accusing engineers, engineers, architects and city planners who enlighten the society and warn the government by fulfilling their professional responsibilities as coup plotters is an indication that the country is governed by unscientific, irrational decisions and minds.

“WE ARE HERE”

Accusing engineers, architects and city planners who enlighten the society and warn the government by fulfilling their professional responsibilities as coup plotters is an indication that your country is governed by unscientific, irrational decisions and minds.

However, they should not forget this; This country is not abandoned.

Gezi is the voice of millions who protect the future of this country, who fight for their rights and future, and who object to the reactionary policies of the AKP that surround us all around us. You can neither confine nor stop this voice! We are here…

“OUR FRIENDS ARE IN PRISON NOT BECAUSE THEY COMMITTED CRIMES, BUT BECAUSE THEY DEFENDED THE INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC”

Our friends are in prison not because they committed a crime, but because they defended the interests of the people, because they protected Taksim Square and Gezi Park, because they opposed the government’s profit-making projects, and because they fulfilled their professional responsibilities.

Just as the Gezi Resistance is a part of this country’s honorable and honorable history, our friends arrested in the Gezi Case are also a part of our honorable and honorable history.

Despite the reckless attacks of the government and partisan media, no slander, no scenario, no decision has succeeded in tarnishing the innocence and righteousness of our friends.

Just as we stand behind the Gezi Resistance, we continue to stand behind our friends who were tried and punished in the Gezi Case. Because we know that Gezi is us. It is our most organized voice that we raise against hunger, poverty, oppression and oppression.

“WE WILL CONTINUE TO SAY WHAT WE KNOW IS TRUE”

Gezi is the cry of millions against a handful of capitalists and a handful of tyrants. Our parks, trees, forests, streams… Gezi is this country itself. It is historical. It is his legacy. It is the future. We will continue to stand by our friends, to say what we know to be true, and to fight to defend the public interest on behalf of our people and our country. And from here we continue to stubbornly say once again; You cannot stop the people’s just struggle. You cannot stand against Gezi. In the 2nd year of lawlessness, we want our friends detained in the Gezi case to be released. Put an end to this lawlessness. “Release our friends,” he said.
