The Eastern Black Sea Mountains, located in the province of Trabzon, extend in the south of the province and parallel to the coast. These mountains are in three blocks: Zigana Mountains, Trabzon Mountains and Soğanlı Mountains. Zigana Mountains are located to the west of Değirmendere Valley and are divided by deep valleys extending towards the coast. Zigana Pass, the most important pass of the Eastern Black Sea Mountains, is also on these mountains. The highest point in the Zigana Mountains is the point where Zigana Pass is located at 2356 meters. Trabzon Mountains are located between Değirmendere and Solaklı Stream.

The main peaks of these mountains include Kırklar Hill (3450 m), Kemer Hill (2856 m) and Karakaya Hill (3193 m). Soğanlı Mountains are located to the east of Solaklı Stream and their highest point is known as Çakırgöl Mountain (3063 m). The foothills of the mountains consist of plateaus and plateaus and their heights are generally between 1750-2250 meters. Among these plateaus, Mescit Plateau, Sultan Murad Plateau, Ashot and Reşadiye Plateau, Fikonov Plateau, Beypınarı Plateau, Maçka Plateau, Sakaltutan Plateau and Derinoba Plateau stand out.

Beşikdağı

While the summit can be reached in 60 minutes on foot from Beşikdüzü city center, it is 5-10 minutes away by car. When you climb to the top, it is possible to see 46 villages of Beşikdüzü, Vakfıkebir, Şalpazarı and İskenderli at the same time. In 2006, a road was built by Beşikdüzü Municipality in order to bring it into tourism, and construction work at the summit continues.

A march to Beşikdağı was organized for the first time on the second Sunday of May 2005 by the students of Karadeniz Technical University Beşikdüzü Vocational School. Later, the second march was held on the same Sunday in 2006 and various events were held at the summit. The third march and events were held on the same Sunday in 2007. Many students and the public attended these events.

Mount Madur

Madur Mountain, located in Trabzon’s Sürmene district, is the highest point of the district, with an altitude of 2,742. Madur Mountain is surrounded by plateaus such as Köşk Plateau, Taşlı Plateau, Sulak Plateau, Kalecik Plateau and Kutlusu Plateau. This mountain is used for transhumance activities and its summit consists of rocks. Historically, in Xenophon’s work Anabasis, it is stated that the Greek army saw the sea from this mountain.

Fog Mountain


Sis Mountain is the highest peak of the Aladağ Mountains, located within the borders of Görele and Eynesil districts of Giresun Province and Şalpazarı district of Trabzon province. The peak of the mountain, whose height is 2182 meters, is within the borders of Yeşildere village of Görele. At the top of Sis Mountain is the 1950-meter-high Sis Mountain Plateau. Sis Mountain Festivals are held in this plateau with people coming from surrounding tribes and villages. The festivities are held on the fourth Saturday of July by Şalpazarı District Governorate and Şalpazarı Municipality. Snow does not melt on the mountain until July. Access to Sis Mountain is provided by the 75-kilometer asphalt road leading from the Trabzon coast towards the mountain.

Sis Mountain Plateau has infrastructure that meets basic needs such as telephone, electricity and water. There are also accommodation services and facilities to meet the needs of daily visitors. Sis Mountain Plateau has been accepted as a tourism center and declared a Class C national park.
