The 107-meter dry cargo ship named ‘AK DISCOVERY’ in the Dardanelles was towed with a tugboat and anchored in the Dark Liman area after the fire that started in the engine room and was brought under control.


A fire broke out on the 107-meter-long dry cargo ship named ‘AK DISCOVERY’ going from Egypt to Bulgaria at around 19.00 yesterday. The ship captain reported the situation to the Dardanelles Ship Traffic Services Center Directorate. Rescue-13 and Kural-3 tugboats belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the region. The personnel named Obaıd Mohamadnor, a Syrian national who was injured in the fire that broke out on the ship with a total of 14 crew members, was taken ashore by the Coast Guard teams and taken to Çanakkale Mehmet Akif Ersoy State Hospital by ambulance and received treatment. For security reasons, the Dardanelles was closed to two-way traffic. As a result of the intervention of the teams, the fire was extinguished and Bosphorus traffic returned to normal.

After the fire was extinguished, the ship was towed by the Rescue-13 tugboat belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and anchored in the Dark Port area.
