The wheelhouse of the ship ‘Kafkametler’, which sank in Zonguldak, was removed from the sea

Communication was lost with the 12 crew members of the dry cargo ship named ‘Kafkametler’, which hit the breakwater and sank due to a storm off the coast of Ereğli district on November 19. After the ship sank, SAS commandos from the Naval Forces Command, AFAD, Coast Guard Command, Coastal Police and special units of the Turkish Armed Forces launched a search and rescue operation from air, land and sea to find the missing sailors. The dead bodies of 5 ship personnel were found. Efforts have been continuing for 160 days to find the missing Captain Cemal Turan, 3rd Captain Berke Çamurtaş, Chief Engineer Veli Özel, 2nd Machinist Göksel Özel, Master Sailor Satulmuş Uslu, Sailor Mustafa Nacar and Oilman Ömer Hebip.

HE SAID IT WAS SUCKED ON HIS LAST CALL

Kafkametler’s last radio call was revealed. In his radio call, he was heard saying, “Pilot from Ereğ, Kafkametler. Pilot from Ereğ, my job is done. I’m leaning against the breakwater now, okay. I’m leaning against the breakwater. I’m leaning against the military side. I’m requesting rescue. I’m leaning against the military side, military side.” Later, radio communication with Kafkametler was lost.

The crane pontoon platform, brought to the region by the tugboat named ‘Aras Salvor’, was installed on the sea surface for the on-site dismantling of the ship carried out by a private company. While the search efforts continued from land and sea, the pilothouse, which divers cut into the sea and separated from the hull, was pulled to the surface via a crane in the evening. It was seen that the words ‘Kafkametler’ were written on the wheelhouse. On-site dismantling of the ship continues.
