47-year-old Öktem later called Mesut Toğay, Yalın’s brother-in-law, and told him that he had committed suicide. Kartal Public Security Bureau teams went to the scene upon the notice of Mesut Toğay and saw that Yalın was lying on his back on the sofa and there was heavy blood on the back of his head.

Öktem claimed that he took out the gun in the flat and shot it at the wall and then removed the cartridges from the magazine, while Selin Yalın committed suicide by taking the gun. However, it was stated that Öktem, who was taken to the police station, confessed to the murder there.

In the statement of Ömer Öktem, who said that he did not accept the police reports, “I definitely did not kill Selin intentionally. Selin was my girlfriend for about 8 years. After her father’s death, she was psychologically affected. His mother constantly puts pressure on him. She was a person who was psychologically overwhelmed and suddenly had a nervous outburst. This is the reason for the fight report against us. We didn’t fight. I was emptying the gun’s marbles because I didn’t want him to hurt himself. Meanwhile, he made a move towards the gun. I acted before him because I was afraid he would hurt himself and commit suicide. While trying to grab the gun, the gun suddenly went off and Selin collapsed on the couch. Meanwhile, I went into shock. I gave him heart massage. Then I thought about committing suicide. I put a bullet in the gun and put it to my head, but when I saw my children, I fired towards the wall. I did not put the gun in Selin’s hand. I do not accept the police report. “I didn’t want to make it look like a suicide.” he said.
