The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) sector, where infrastructure works, industrial facilities, power plants and other construction projects are carried out, is growing with rapid urbanization. The global EPC market, which closed 2023 at 8.5 trillion dollars, is expected to reach 11.22 trillion dollars in 8 years. Events organized in this field in Turkey support local companies to gain competitive advantage and increase their momentum by signing new collaborations in the rapidly growing market.

Business Finland, affiliated with Finland’s Ministry of Economy and Employment, and Finnish Export Credit Agency Finnvera organized a trade delegation visit to Turkey between 24 and 26 April. As part of the visit organized to bring together Turkish EPC companies looking for technology solutions with Finnish suppliers, the Turkish Contractors Association hosted Finnvera officials and representatives of Finnish companies at the Turkey-Finland Global EPC Projects Seminar in Ankara on April 25. The delegation was led by Finnvera Senior Vice President Mr. Jussi Haarasilta and Business Finland Deputy General Manager and Head of Global Growth Mr. Risto Vuohelainen. Following the seminar, representatives of Turkish contracting companies and various financial institutions met with the Finnish delegation at the reception hosted by the Finnish Embassy. The focus was on cooperation opportunities in infrastructure and superstructure projects carried out abroad under the leadership of Turkish contractors. It was decided to act together for the next period.

“WE WILL INCREASE COOPERATIONS OF TURKISH EXPORTERS WITH FINISH COMPANIES”

Finnish Embassy Commercial Counselor Joona Selin said, “Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Finland, two friendly countries, have passed their 100th anniversary. We aim to expand these relationships in the second century. At this event, we bring together global Turkish contractors looking for advanced technology solutions with Finnish suppliers. “I hope that we can contribute more to the development of cooperation between Türkiye and Finland through mutual exchange of ideas,” he said.

Dindiren Dönmez Evren, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) Turkey-Finland Business Council, stated that he thinks there is a very serious potential that is not realized between Turkey and Finland and said: We prioritize ensuring its establishment. “I find today’s organization very valuable as it is an event where solutions, a qualified business network and financial providers come together and concrete steps are discussed,” he said.

“THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES”

Stating that there is a significant potential between Turkey and Finland, Risto Vuohealaiinen, Head of Global Growth at Business Finland, said: “We believe that a huge potential can be created with large-scale collaborations between Turkish and Finnish companies. “We took an important step in today’s event by bringing together Turkey’s contracting companies with strong experience in the global market with Finland’s advanced technology solutions and supporting financing solutions,” he said.

“WE WILL COMBINE OUR EXPERTISE WITH OUR FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS”

Stating that they offer financing solutions that strengthen the potential and competitiveness of Finnish businesses, Mr. Jussi Haarasilta, Senior Vice President of Finnish Export Credit Agency Finnvera, said: “Today, we had the chance to see closely the capabilities and capabilities of Turkish EPC companies in almost every region of the world. Finland has significant expertise in airports, railways, ports and renewable energy. “I think that by combining these expertises with our financial solutions, we can develop important collaborations with Turkish companies in large global projects,” he said.

Business Finland International Finance Unit Manager Grace Wang and Business Finland Turkey Office Senior Expert Nilüfer Alapınar also made the following statements in their joint statement:

“Turkish companies are in second place in the global rankings in international contracting and consultancy services. “We believe that Finland’s leading suppliers of sustainable, high-tech and innovative products and solutions will support Turkish contracting companies to gain a competitive advantage in their projects abroad, and in this sense, the concrete cooperation between the two countries will grow stronger.”
