The first cruise ship of the season docked at Trabzon Port.

The cruise ship named “Astoria Grande” with 980 passengers, departing from Sochi, Russia, arrived in Trabzon after visiting Samsun.

The mostly Russian tourists on the ship will visit the Sumela Monastery in Maçka district, as well as the historical places in the city center.

Volkan Kantarcı, Chairman of the Regional Representation Board of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), told journalists that the ship, which called at the ports in the Black Sea, will sail to Sochi again after Trabzon.

Stating that the ship organized three voyages in January 2024, Kantarcı said, “It has arrived again at the beginning of the summer season. It will make 27 voyages from now until the end of the year. Since the Black Sea was considered an unsafe inland sea after the Russia-Ukraine war broke out, foreign companies passed through the strait and entered the Black Sea very much. “They are not heading towards it. The Russian ship is organizing such an operation by leaving Sochi.” said.

Pointing out that the number of passengers is increasing with each passing season, Kantarcı said, “Although it is a one-day arrival and return, it makes a serious contribution to the city’s economy. Last year, around 15 thousand tourists came. This year it will approach 30 thousand. I hope it will go a little higher.” he said.
