Ergin Ataman, the head coach of Panathinaikos and the Turkish National Team, said that he was threatened during the events following the Panathinaikos-Maccabi Tel Aviv match played yesterday.

Head coach Ergin Ataman made the following statements about the incident:

“It is very strange for me that one of the very big organizations that I have always protected has made a statement against me for damaging the image of the EuroLeague. If I did something wrong and talked about the referees, the punishment is in the rules. Why are you making a statement against me? Why are you inciting some people against me? What happened now?

On the way to the locker room, someone from the Maccabi technical team said, I don’t know who he was because he was not accredited. He said to me: “We will meet in Israel, we will see what the Zionists will do to you.”

Come on.

My name is Ergin Ataman. I am the coach of Panathinaikos and the Turkish National Team. “I am a Turkish citizen and you cannot do anything to me.”

At noon today, a statement regarding the issue was made by the Turkish Basketball Federation:

We condemn the threat made against our Men’s National Team Head Coach Ergin Ataman.

We express our full support to our teacher who represents our country abroad and wish him success.
